Thomas Henry Fisher worked for the Football Post signing his work 'TF' but is more internationally known as the illustrator of the Just William books, written by Richmal Crompton.

Thomas Henry Fisher
Thomas Henry Fisher.

His work first appeared in 1904 when he was employed as an illustrator for the Nottingham Football Post.

He created characters to represent our local football teams such as 'Magpie Man' for Notts County.

By 1913 Thomas was frequently having cartoons published in the Punch magazine and he also invented the image of William for magazines and the first Just William book in 1922.

Very little of Thomas Fisher's original work seems to exist, but Pete Dredge is desperate to find any of his work ready to be displayed at this year's Big Grin Cartoon Festival.
