Terrestrial is a series of guided journeys across
Nottingham city centre using a mini-disc Walkman and telescope.
It is an intimate performance, offering a one-to-one encounter for
the viewer, who uses the telescope to track the artist as he moves
across the city.
The journey treads a path between the historic and the mundane, giving
the audience a unique social and historical view of Nottingham.
The positioning of the telescope affords a panoramic view of the city.
The telescope will be housed in an outdoor shelter that will dictate
the viewpoint of the viewer, as well as provide a welcome relief from
Nottingham’s harsher elements.
The visual journey is accompanied by a recording that acts as guidance
notes along these predetermined routes, effectively determining the
duration of the performance.
Terrestrial is an investigation into the relationship between viewing,
social space and the city.
It is an attempt to reframe the urban by asking us to consider our
own performativity within the built environment.
Due to the limited size of the audience, the performance will be scheduled
at specific times and audience members may have to sign up a designated
time. |
