Sarah Chase is a dancer, choreographer, and storyteller.
Over a week during the NOW festival, Sarah Chase will work in a home
to create a dance portrait of its owner.
She will investigate a stranger’s apartment on her own, taking in
the environment in the absence of its occupant.
For the following three days she will work person-to-person with the
subject of the portrait, mapping out a timeline from their birth to
their current age, filling it in with memory flashes, times of illness,
geographical locations, recurring symbols, and obsessions.
Following this initial phase, she will perform a dance portrait created
from her research over three days inside the person’s home, using
her movement as a canvas, accompanied by musician Bill Brennan.
As this is a limited capacity audience, we recommend getting in early
to see Chase’s unusual and fascinating physical performance of a stranger’s
personality.
Private Room No. 10 is presented in conjunction with Dance 4. |
