Stepping out into the city can be a strange business.

A trip to the local one stop shop which sells everything and nothing in bland neon-lit isles, or a one stop only bus journey that takes you past buildings you pass every day but never notice have an oddness about them: we exist in the city, but we don’t live here.

Our own streets are foreign countries to us.

It’s not all 21st century angst, though.

Like an explorer or tourist returning from foreign climes, Jo Roberts is heading to NOW with a satchel full of interviews collected on her travels along the tramlines of Nottingham.

Voyaging from Hucknall to the city centre, Roberts has carried out a short video interview with everyone she came into contact with, asking for life enhancing thoughts.

The responses take in the philosophical, the surreal, and the comedic, all mixed up with a smattering of commonsense tips for around the home.

She will present this footage as part of a playful presentation on her experiences of travelling through Nottingham’s street life one stop at a time.
