Alexei Sayle is best known as a comic and for his his part in cult series The Young Ones - he's is still collecting the cheques.

However, on Monday, 22nd September 2003 Alexei will be in Nottingham - reading from and signing copies of his first novel - Overtaken.

Speaking to Jeff Owen Alexei talks about:

  • The skills needed for being a writer.

  • Growing up: "I was always a show-off!"

  • The Young Ones: "I still keep getting the cheques."

  • The six series of his own show: "After a while you've got to call a halt... it stops being satisfying."

  • His new book which is about loss and grief: "Most of it is made up... some of it is real."

  • ... and why he couldn't be a politician: "I feel sorry for many politicians... we expect them to be completely consistent and moralised when we're not."
