"Triangleabout" a first for Nottinghamshire

Nottingham engineers have come up with an innovative way to improve traffic flow.

Plans for a "triangleabout" in Nottingham

The engineers have designed a triangular shaped roundabout as part of a redevelopment within the city to improve traffic flow and pedestrian access.

The "triangleabout" is attracting a lot of attention from trade magazines and other engineers as it is a first for Nottinghamshire - and possibly the world.

The development at the junction of Bath Street and St Ann's Wells Road is being described by Nottingham City Council as "an innovative and cost effective response to overcome the problems caused by two manholes".

The council say that replacing the existing roundabout with a similar shaped one would have caused more delays, disruption and construction costs as engineers would have had to partially demolish and rebuild the existing drainage chambers.

The design has been approved by the council's Road Safety Team as a safe and workable solution.

Work has already begun and should be completed in the next eight to ten weeks.
