DJ SanteroBy Kristi Genovese, BBC Blast Reporter, Nottingham Former Detonate DJ has been making a name for himself with his own club night called 'LowJack'. DJ Santero (aka Will Kirby) was the resident Hip Hop DJ for Detonate for almost seven years, at various venues in Nottingham. He now has his own night LowJack at Stealth on the third Saturday of each month. "Stealth is a good venue because it is genuinely music led - they provide a great sound system, a brilliant atmosphere, and focus on getting the music right rather than serving £9 cocktails for wannabe WAGs." He plays bass, electro and fidget house, dubstep, and hip hop and ragga influenced dance music. "It's all about getting people dancing, so expect party tracks with a twist, lots of exclusive edits, remixes, mash ups, and an all round party vibe." The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites In The BeginningWill developed his scratching skills through playing Hip Hop, but soon returned to dance music. Going to clubs inspired him to buy his first decks in 1997, and two years later he began his professional DJ career. "I've had some of my favourite nights with Detonate, warming up for some real heroes of mine. "I played at Renaissance at Ministry last year and played at Camden Roundhouse this year. "I'm also working hard in the studio on my own projects, and on some pretty special stuff with Pete Jordan of Spectrum fame." SongsWill says, about the music he uses, "I play songs that make people move and hooks the crowd in, with a particular melody or vocal." His key track to get people on the dance floor is Dance Area - AA247. "I rattle through songs in my sets, so songs that build for five minutes before they actually do anything are not really for me when I'm DJing!" Santero looks up to DJs including Diplo, Q-Bert and Danny Tengaglia. "Diplo goes between styles in his sets and plays what he likes, and doesn't worry about following trends, he sets them." His own music taste ranges from dub step to Miles Davis and simply says, "If it's good, it’s good." While he praises clubs such as Stealth and Market Bar he feels that Nottingham should offer more than 'the Oceana's of the world.' You can catch artists like DJ Santero on The Beat.
