Introducing... Becky Jarvis

Singer/songwriter Becky Jarvis's influences include Pavarotti and Abba.

Becky Jarvis is a singer/songwriter from Nottingham.

Her voice can suit any sort of music. She says:

"I think versatility is everything. I've never stuck to one type of music."

Becky is also a singing tutor and says a certain rotund tenor was a big influence on the way she teaches. She says:

"Pavarotti taught me a huge lesson. It's a little lavoratorial... He used to say to use your diaphragm and muscles properly it [should] almost [be] like going for a number two."

Becky has another surprising influence on her music - Abba.

"The first record I ever bought was Mamma Mia. It not only taught me melody, it also taught me how to harmonise...

"My mum used to have Iron maiden off my brother in one room and Abba in the other, poor woman."

Biography

Becky grew up in a house full of music and says her family have been a major influence on her life.

Influences apart from Pavarotti and Abba include Nat King Cole, Mammas and the Pappas, DonMaclean, James Taylor and Ella Fitzgerald.

Becky has played the flute since she was seven until present day.

Her first band was called 'Tarragon'.

Becky worked as a cocktail bar singer in Scotland for five years from 1991 - 1996, singing for three hours a night.

Moved to Nottingham in 1996/97 and became a member of Outdaville.

Since then she has been raising a family but is releasing a single titled 'Never Too Late'.
