Frances Finn enjoys her time in a professional kitchen

Radio Nottingham's MasterChef

Five BBC Radio Nottingham presenters have a cook-off to see who is the best chef.

Andy Whittaker, Frances Finn, David Lloyd, John Holmes and Alan Clifford have been vying for the title BBC Radio Nottingham MasterChef.

Each presenter was assigned to a professional kitchen in Nottingham and after a morning's training asked to cook a signature dish.

The finished plates have been judged by Nottingham Restaurant Awards organiser Jocelyn Platt.

Voting for the Awards, which aim to raise standards of quality, service, value and skill in the food industry in Nottingham, is now underway.

Andy Whittaker and his dish

Andy Whittaker is proud of his attempt

Breakfast Show presenter Andy Whittaker was under the watchful eye of sous chef Patrick at Le Bistro Pierre, Nottingham.

On his menu was Chicken Supreme marinated in ginger, chilli, garlic and lemon with a mixed pepper salsa, one of the restaurant's most popular dishes.

Patrick was relatively impressed with Andy's food.

"It's absolutely perfect. It was a very simple dish... that's probably why."

Frances Finn with her dish

Fran is happy with her food

Morning Show presenter Frances Finn sees herself as a competent cook but felt the heat in World Service's kitchen.

However, her crispy belly pork with pan-fried cod cheeks with cabbage and potato puree impressed chef Chris.

"Nine point five out of ten because I can't give ten."

Lunch presenter David Lloyd attempted spicy crab claws with cumin and coriander crab meat cake with tartare sauce at MemSaab Indian restaurant.

He had the frightening prospect of combining 35 ingredients for his starter. Restauranteur Naj enjoyed his time with David but told him to get out of his kitchen before the evening rush.

"David, you're a genius... sadly not at cooking."

John Holmes with his pork dish

Afternoon Show presenter John Holmes played apprentice to David Perkins at Perkins Restaurant in Plumtree.

He attempted to prepare Pork Holstein. Unfortunately, John gave the pork a bit of a pummeling. David wasn't happy.

"This is not going to a customer."

Finally, Drive presenter and keen cook Alan Clifford got in the way of Ben at vegetarian restaurant Alley Cafe.

He struggled to master the paper towel holder in Ben's kitchen. Then he attempted stuffed peppers with seasonal leaves on a bed of organic brown wild rice, olives and tomato sauce.

Results were announced on BBC Radio Nottingham's Breakfast Show with Andy Whittaker (95.5 & 103.8FM, DAB and online). Andy Whittaker is BBC Radio Nottingham's MasterChef.
