We now have the results. BBC Radio Nottingham presenter Andy Whittaker wanted to see how much electricity Nottinghamshire could save overnight from 9pm on Wednesday 18 February to 6am the following morning. The idea was to avoid using anything electrical between those times, switching off appliances at the plug and turning off lights. People didn't have to sit in the dark, just try not to use anything electrical that they didn't actually need. ![]() The resultsThe top line is that we saved the equivalent of 425,000 boiling kettles! There was a 1.2% drop in demand, which doesn't sound like much but it was during a time when people have mostly gone to bed and are only, if at all, leaving the bare minimum of appliances on. Over a normal night Nottingham uses on average 1930 megawatt hours of electricity. On the night of the Energy Experiment it was down to 1916 megawatt hours. That's a saving of 14,150 kilowatt hours of electricity. Well done to everyone that took part! last updated: 18/03/2009 at 09:54 You are in: Nottingham > Local Radio > Campaigns > Energy Experiment : The Results |
