FaithYou are in: Nottingham > Faith > Stranger taught me to trust in God ![]() Stranger taught me to trust in GodDespite being taught in school that God didn't exist Sergiy wants to be a priest. Sergiy Diduk is a Russian living in Nottinghamshire. He grew up in an atheistic country but is now studying at St John's Theological College in Bramcote, hoping to become an Anglican Priest. He has experienced many miracles that have shaped his faith. CuriosityGrowing up in the Ukraine, Sergiy was taught in school that God didn't exist. But for Sergiy, every time he was told this his curiosity grew. One day he even skipped school to look inside his local Russian Orthodox Church only to be told to leave by the priest, fearing that they would get in trouble. Faith at 23Sergiy became a Christian at the age of 23. However, at this time he was finding it difficult to provide for his young family. One day Sergiy started to panic. "My wife Julia said we had nothing to eat. I had no money to buy any food." Sergiy and Julia didn't know what to do. They decided to pray to God. They knelt down but before they could start someone rang the doorbell. "I was so cross as we were about to pray. I opened the door. There was a man, someone I had never met before. He was holding a bag. He said 'this is for you'." Sergiy was so immersed in his own problems that he just took the white plastic bag and shut the door. Turning pointHe knelt to pray but his wife said they must look in the bag first. "[Inside was] a huge piece of meat and a huge piece of bread. I couldn't believe it. Since that I've tried to put my trust in God."
