God wanted me to become a Salvation Army officer

After listening to a Christmas record Alex was told by God what she had to do with her life.

Alex Woodford from Annesley was brought up in the Salvation Army but as a teenager strayed from the Church.

She studied art in London and got into drink and drugs.

"It was escape from reality. My life wasn't great, but it was when I was drinking and smoking [marijuana]."

Feed the World

Whilst working as a decorator in the capital she heard a man on the radio talking about a children's home he was building in Uganda.

Alex quickly scribbled down his number because she'd always wanted to go. A year later she finally wrote him a letter and found herself in East Africa. It was here that she was guided by God.

Alex was visiting friends during the festive period and heard Feed The World by Band Aid on the radio.

"I was completely heartbroken. I didn't feel as if I had anything to offer whilst I was there but I also didn't want to be at home, having all the luxuries that I have.

"I felt completely useless. Within minutes Salvation Army officer came into my mind and it wouldn't leave. I realised God wanted me to be a Salvation Army officer."

Spreading 'The Word'

She is now training to do just that.

"I believe God tells you where you a re supposed to be.

"I believe that He wants me to feed the world with 'The Word'. You can have lots of money but if you don't have Jesus then you are missing something in your life."
