A stranger saved my life

Tristen was considering suicide when, on two separate occasions, he came across a stranger in the street who said that God had told her to come and speak to him.

Tristen's life fell apart after he lost his job. He ended up losing his house, his car and his partner.

"We had such a traumatic relationship. She was on anti-depressants. I was suffering from anger issues. As a result the police were called. That's when I started sleeping rough."

Tristen would sit in parks for as long as he could before calling on friends and relatives for a floor to sleep on.

"Eventually I had nowhere to stop. That's when I reached the point where I was going to commit suicide."

The turning point

Tristen was walking towards the shops on Beechdale Lane when a woman stopped him and asked if she could pray for him. Rather than run he said yes.

"One part of me was crying out for it. When I opened my eyes I felt peace."

After this his life got worse not better. He had another argument. The police were called and he decided it was time to go. He thought he'd drown himself in the lake at Wollaton Park.

"I know I was going to do it. I'd reached the end."

But as Tristen made his way to Wollaton the same woman who'd prayed for him earlier walked around the corner and approached him again.

She said that God had told her to come out of her house and come and speak to Tristen.

"There and then I repented of myself and gave my life to the Lord."

Tristen decided to get baptised. He's been volunteering at Working Links in Notttingham and is now training to be a support worker to help people who find themselves in the same situation he found himself in.

The stranger's story

The person he bumped into wasn't an angel. It was Amanda Gardener from Bulwell.
