Help playing audio/video The man behind Nottingham's GameCity is hoping more than a thousand people will turn up in Old Market Square on Halloween to help break a world record for the largest gathering of zombies. They need to exceed the 1,124 people who got together at the Monroeville Mall in Pittsburgh, USA in November 2007 to stand a chance of entering the record books (although this figure is still awaiting verification by Guinness). Training providedGameCity's festival director Iain Simons says people just have to turn up by 14:00 on the day and they'll be transformed into character. "We can provide you with the zombie kit, we can train you to walk like a zombie, talk like a zombie, shuffle like a zombie. We'll train you to do the Thriller dance." The actual world record attempt will happen at 17:00 and be the culmination of a series of events happening on the day. "It's essentially the best Halloween party you've ever had in Market Square," says Iain. ![]() Iain Simons, GameCity director Open to criticismMr Simons has also defended the event against possible criticism. "These are family oriented zombies so we're not expecting anything too gory. This is an opportunity for the city to come together and have some fun. "As far as I know there's no proven cases between kids dressing up as zombies and going on to perpetrate evil throughout the world. I'm happy to stand corrected on that." Bucking the trendDespite the current credit crunch, Iain Simons says games companies in Nottingham are still performing well. "The big success story for Nottingham at the moment is Monumental Games who are expanding rapidly into the Lace Market. "There's Free Radical by junction 25 who are doing a big project for Lucas Arts, George Lucas's company. Certainly the games industry in Nottinghamshire at the moment is doing fantastically well, expanding if anything."
