Goose Fair 2008
The smell of candy floss and hot dogs will soon be wafting from the Forest Recreation Ground again as the 714th Goose Fair hits town.
How the fair got its name...
An old story said the name Goose Fair came about after an angler caught a pike in the River Trent. "Perched high in the air a wild goose aspied the fish, secured it and carried it off with rod, line and angler attached." After the goose dropped the angler, uninjured, in the Market Place, the old story goes that a holiday and the Fair was set up to celebrate.
Nottingham's Goose Fair returns to the city in October.
Half a million visitors are expected to enjoy the fair, now in its 714th year!
Goose Fair is one of Europe's largest travelling fairs, with more than 500 rides, games and exhibitions to thrill and amuse you.
It's an ideal day trip for families, visitors and coach groups - and admission is free!
The fair is on from Wednesday 1 October to Saturday 4 October 2008.
