Martin Stack, from Arnold, spent 20 years working in one of Nottingham's biggest nightclubs, Oceana (formerly Ritzy) as a resident DJ. He then decided to spin his life in a different direction and become a Catholic priest. In 2007 he began a four-year training course in Rome but a year later he's remixed his life and is back in Britain promoting his new single 'Summertime'. "My life's been like a washing machine. I've been spun upside down, chucked out and come back in again. It is just really weird." For eight months in Italy Martin absorbed himself in study, meditation, learning about prayer and building a relationship with God. It all felt good. "There were people from all across the world in the College. They were fantastic people. Some of them were like saints to be honest but musically a lot of them were into the church music not dance music like I was." Then he received a bolt out of the blue. "All of a sudden I got this email saying 'we want to go ahead with your track Summertime'. I thought it was a joke." Martin found himself still under contract with an American record company. He had a chance in a lifetime to go to the States and make a pop video and promote his single. The powers that be in Rome gave him their blessing to take some time out and here he is. "I didn't expect to be back." DJ SkillmasterHis single 'Summertime' is out in America but won't be released in the UK until next year. The cover of the single and Summertime's video includes several scantily clad woman. ![]() Martin Stack in Rome "I wouldn't do anything that would be detrimental to the Church. If you see the video you'll notice that technically I'm on my own and the girls are on their own." Martin aka DJ Skillmaster is not interested in the world of women, wealth and drugs. "[As a DJ I'm there] to give people a good time and that is why the lyrics are always safe - there is nothing to do with drugs." The futureWith regards to the future he admits he's not sure where his life is going to lead. "I'm 150% committed to the music project. Once that's done I'll readdress my position but I can't forsee myself in the future with a Shaggy lifestyle."
