Nottingham Forest are looking at alternative locations for their new stadium. BBC Radio Nottingham understands the club is unlikely to move to Clifton as it initially announced in June. The City Council, which is expected to contribute to part of the building costs, is known to favour a move closer to the city centre. The club wants to leave the City Ground to get a bigger capacity.
They want it to be part a host venue in England's 2018 World Cup bid. But to do that, the stadium needs to seat at least 50,000. The club say the City Ground can't be extended beyond 35,000. Discussions are continuing between Nottingham City Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottingham Forest and potential developers. If the club is to be part of England's World Cup bid, the plans will need to be in place by 2009. Forest's Chief Executive Mark Arthur has been talking about the new stadium; Nottingham as a World Cup venue and Nottingham Forest leaving the City Ground.
