Nottinghamshire has its fair share of haunted places. There's Newstead Abbey and The Trip to Jerusalem to name just two.

But those behind Nottingham's Galleries of Justice believe they have the scariest.

Do you dare travel with Tim Desmond, the Galleries chief executive, into the haunted medieval caves?

Most haunted

Plenty of paranormal experts have been to the caves and witnessed things going bump in the night.

"They've experienced movement in this area - people brushing past them and actual stones and some of the sand moving around and underneath their feet," says Tim.

"It's the most haunted part of the Galleries of Justice. We're currently in a survey as one of the most haunted sites in Britain. We're certainly the most haunted site in the East Midlands."

Gone and forgotten

Being put in the caves when it was used as jail often marked the end of your life.

"We know that prisoners were left here in solitary confinement for up to two years. There was no escape for them. You can hear nothing."
