Dalai Lama to visit
Nottingham has been chosen to host a visit by one of the world's most famous spiritual leaders.
Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, will be presenting five days of public talks and teachings in Nottingham in 2008.
He'll be appearing at the Nottingham Arena between Saturday 24 and Wednesday 28 May.
There are to be a series of talks on 'Bringing Meaning to Our Lives' and teachings on 'Investigating the Nature of Reality'.
Jane Rasch, co-ordinator of the visit, says he has a lot to offer the people of Nottinghamshire:
"He has a kindness that radiates out of him. To meet him is a really special thing.
"He offers us the chance to examine our lives and also what our relationship is with the world we inhabit."
Nottingham was chosen as the venue for his visit to the UK for two reasons - the first is the city's central location and the second is Nottingham City Council's 'green' credentials.
"The meeting is to emphasise the importance of preserving the environment. The Dalai Lama is the most active world leader in this field. We were very impressed with the way Nottingham City Council is leading the way in protecting the environment."
Tickets for the teachings are on sale and can be purchased via the Nottingham Arena box office on 0870 163 1781.
