Beck Stacey

Unsigned : Beck Stacey

Uncannily Nottingham's Beck Stacey sounds like a cross between Kate Bush and Tori Amos.

I sound a bit like...

I got told I sounded like Kate Bush so I started listening to her, as I didn't really know who she was. I've also been told I sound like Tori Amos and Mary Hopkins.

Who are your influences?

Musicians who inspire me include Nick Cave, The Smiths, The Pixies, Stevie Nicks, Billy Idol, Iggy Pop, Sinead O Conner, Beth Orton, Juliette and the Licks.

Who would be a dream band member and why?

I would love to duet with Nick Cave. He is awesome.

Does the city offer you enough opportunities?

I think there are lots of great music venues in Nottingham and a really wide range of music styles the opportunities are there if you look for them.

What was your best gig and why?

I played support for Jamie T at the Town Mill in Mansfield a year or so ago. It was good because I got to hang out with him.

What would you give up to get signed?

My day job, gladly. I wouldn't sell my soul or give up my booty!

Most influential figures in your life?

I try to be open to all influences and people with an interesting point of view or story. That's how I am able to be creative, but if I need good advice it's got to be me Mum.

Best band in Notts and why?

I'm really into a band from Notts called Danny and the Dead Beats and a singer songwriter called Ying.

What are you listening to at the moment?

At the moment I'm listening to Ash Wednesday by Elvis Perkins. I saw him and his band play at the Rescue Rooms last Saturday, they were really good.

In a fire, which album would you rescue?

In a fire I would rescue my cat first but if there was time to rescue only one CD it would have to be a compilation. I really couldn't make up my mind.

What's the perfect night-out in Nottingham?

As long as it involved some live music, food, booze and a bit a dancing it should be pretty cool.
