Architecture vote results

As part of the BBC's How We Built Britain series we searched for the most popular building in Nottinghamshire.

The winner

With almost half the votes Southwell Minster was a runaway winner with Wollaton Hall coming second.

Modern buildings didn't do very well with both the tax office and Nottingham Playhouse at the bottom of the list.

However, Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station did pick up 4% of the votes.

Talbot House on Talbot Street. An elegant art deco building with decorative artwork, metalwork and graceful, curving brass hand rails at either side of the entrance steps. Judging from the scaffolding just erected it is about to have a facelift which will make it all the more stunning! I admire it every day when I pass by.

I love the Victoria Centre Flats and Nottingham Castle. The Flats because the view from some of them is awesome and somehow in there tall, concrete bareness they don't look a bit out of place and Nottingham Castle because its historic, the grounds are pretty and the views are brilliant!

Wollaton hall is a unique example of Elisabethan architecture. It is the only builing in the list that is of national, let alone local, interest. The views from the prospect room are stunning!

It has to be Wollaton Hall. When you walk up the drive and Wollaton Hall stands there in all its glory it takes your breath away.

Theatre Royal, Nottingham
Because it stands out as an acomplished bastion of Corinthian architecture and reminds us of the rich heritage of the midlands, despite Nottingham's ever growing cultural centre.

Southwell Minster
We like the two towers of the minster, they are quite romantic and look like something from a fairy tale story. The whole building takes our breath away.

Alan
Victoria Station Clocktower. The only remaining part of a once magnificent building.

Kim
I love Colwick Hall and im getting married there soon.

Robert Wragg
I can't believe there's no example of Fothergill Watson nor T C Hine! Colwick Hall should not be in this list. What about Thoresby Hall? The Lace Market is full of magnificent buildings: Adams Building, Broadway, St Mary's. And how about the Portland and Trent Buildings at the University?

Phil Allen
Colwick Hall What a beautiful place a worthy winner

Laura Short
Wollaton Hall - I pass it on my way to work and always crane my head to have a look!

John
Wollaton Hall is a wonderful building, complete with elegant setting. The Trent and Portland buildings at the University of Nottingham - very spectacular. And by the way, it's the HM Revenue & Customs HQ, not the Inland Revenue.

Southwell Minster simply 'takes my breath away'. It is a gem. I go there sometimes simply 'to be' and to pray in quiet contemplation..Not a building but the 'Rainbow Bridge'(610)alwys makes me gasp with delight. It reminds me of a ballet dancer leaping across the abyss. The Arkwight Building is something special too. It is beautiful to loook at, but also as a library it is where as a child I nurtured my love of literature.

Ralph Tonge

Soutwell Minster, just amazing to think how it has outlived so many generations of buildings and with the early mediaeval columns so tactile

Pete Wardman (BBC Radio Nottingham's Lunchtime Pre
For me it's got to be Wollaton Hall. Designed by Robert Smythson and completed in 1588, it's now the home to the city's Natural History Museum. I grew up spending so much of my time as a kid in Wollaton Park that the hall almost feels like a spiritual home. That's why I'll be championing for your votes for Wollaton Hall on BBC Radio Nottingham's Lunchtime show (weekdays : 12noon-2pm). Pete Wardman.

suzanne
Wollaton Hall! Lovely, lovely, lovely. Situated in a gigantic park with lake and deer and pathways and a golf course and gardens... absolutely stunning!

It has to be Wollaton Hall. The 400 year old Wollaton Hall is now a natural history museum, but it has an interesting past. It is also said to have a ghost and is a house with many memories.

Wollaton Hall which is unique as an English Elizabethan Renaissance House of its scale and Southwell Minster a superb example of Norman church architecture.
