GreenWeeks 2007 involves more than 100 events spanning three weeks. It will run from Saturday 26 May to Sunday 17 June 2007. Events include fairs and festivals, narrow boat trips, walks, bike rides and lectures. Raising awareness This is the third time that GreenWeeks has been held. The co-ordinator, Lynn Taylor, says the idea came about in order to raise awareness.
"We realised there was a lot going on in Nottingham surrounding sustainability and the environment which many people were not aware of. "We saw a gap and wanted to increase awareness, promoting the work of organisations who are doing their bit to improve things. It's important to celebrate that." Inspiring individuals GreenWeeks involves many organisations, including local groups, charities, businesses and local authorities. "We hope it will inspire people," says Lynn. "There are many events for people to get involved with. They can look at taking action themselves to perhaps reduce the effects of climate change. We'd like to bring about change to help make Nottingham a greener place." The date of Greenweeks has been chosen to coincide with UN World Environment Day (5 June) and EU Green Week (12 - 15 June). |
