Every year, since 2000, Nottingham has celebrated St. Patrick's Day with events in and around the city centre. The centrepiece of the celebrations will be the 8th St. Patrick's Day parade. It will set off from the Forest Recreation Ground at 11.00am and will make its way through the city centre to the Council House at 1.00pm. Despite the newly revamped slab square not yet being ready to host the main festivities organisers say there's still plenty going on for everyone to enjoy. Organiser Paul Curtis says:- "The parade will dissipate once it enters Old Market Square but that doesn't stop the activities. The Council House is literally going to be open house for us. "It's a day where no matter what culture you are, what heritage you are, what religious denomination you are, you're welcomed in to participate and enjoy a family occasion." Events The day will kick off at 10.30am with a Mass held by Bishop McMahon at St Patrick and Our Lady's Church in the Meadows. There's a whole host of events going on in and around the city centre including story telling at the Central Library on Angel Row, a reception at the Council House with a lunch of Irish stew and Gaelic coffee. There's Irish dancing at the Britannia Inn on St. James's Street in the afternoon and the centrepiece of the evening's entertainment will be the St. Patrick's Night Gala Irish Concert and Dance with Gary Gamble and Band from Donegal at the same venue.
