Alan Carter-Davies is the founder of Area 4 Records, a label dedicated to the promotion of Nottinghamshire bands.

Alan wants to find the best 20 local bands, make a CD and send it out to various press outlets across the country.

Alan feels frustrated by the music industry’s failure to spot the talent in Nottingham. He says:

“Just look at MySpace and [see] how many Nottingham artists are on there… there are hundreds of demos online which are going nowhere… airplay, press, media and record deals is just vapour.”

Alan knows what he and Area 4 have to do get some coverage for local talent.

Dan from local band Old Basford believes he knows why some local bands haven’t made any waves out of the county. He says:

The strange thing about Nottingham is that it seems to be content with its own scene… maybe they’ve not been too concerned about taking it further than that.”

Free publicity

It may seem too good to be true for any local band to not only be featured on a compilation CD but with free publicity also; Alan says there should be no doubts about his motives.

“We are definitely going to do this, we have the money to make the CD and the money to distribute [it] to press outlets throughout the country, and [above all] we have the will to do it.”
