Clough Aid came about after local band The Fakers, who are all big Forest fans, got in touch with the Brian Clough Statue Fund to ask if they could put on a gig to help raise money for the statue fund. The Fakers will be performing along with two other local bands Mint Ive and Delta Red, on Friday 15 December at the Rescue Rooms. Dave Marmion, lead singer with The Fakers, says Cloughie always felt like a member of the family: | "Putting on a gig seemed to be the obvious thing to do to raise some money." | | Dave Marmion |
"Back in the early 1990s I got to be the mascot at a match. As I was running off the pitch, Cloughie stood up and shouted to me, 'Come over here and give your granddad Clough a hug'! "I think that’s a good measure of how Forest fans see Brian, with the love of a family member. That’s why I wanted to get involved in helping the statue fund – putting on a gig seemed to be the obvious thing to do to raise some money." The Brian Clough Statue Fund hope that Clough Aid will generate a significant amount of money as they close in on their target of £60,000.

Rich Fisher, one of the volunteers behind the Brian Clough Statue Fund, says: "We'd like to hope that Brian Clough himself would have approved of the gig. I’m not sure whether the Fakers, Mint Ive and Delta Red would necessarily have been to his taste - but nevertheless, Cloughie was well known for his love of music, with Frank Sinatra and Matt Monro having been among his favourite singers. The event will be compered by Cloughie's European Cup winning captain John McGovern. |
