Nottingham's hidden disabilities

Interviews by Tom Whalley
People with learning disabilities, explain what life is like living and learning in Nottingham.

My story by Valerie Smith

My name is Valerie Jean Smith and I am 47 years old.

I live in Arnold, Nottingham.

I live in a Mencap home with about six people.

I go for a cup of tea and a cake in a  café. And I like shopping and I pay my rent  at  HSBC Bank in Arnold.

I go to Mencap – College on a Monday and Friday to do a Basic Skills Class. On Thursday and Friday I go to Art Class.

Since coming to Basic Skills, I have got  better at counting money and I have made new friends, I have got better at trying new activities.
