I really didn't know what to expect from this concert, but it completely exceeded all my expectations. It was awesome. The relaxed, chilled-out atmosphere was contagious. The setting of Sherwood Pines was so romantic and beautiful for such an amazing group, who have definitely stood the test of time. | "They ended by saying here's to the next 26 years, I hope so!" | | Gemma Hibbard |
From the start of 'Rat In Mi Kitchen', I knew it was going to be fantastic. The sound was so vibrant, the drums, guitars, amazing trumpets and soulful vocals all blended together so well. The crowd were having a great time - dancing, relaxing and singing along. The group had an audience of all ages. The picnic mats and deck-chairs were soon brushed aside as almost everyone got to their feet. You wouldn't have been disappointed, track after track was a winner - 'Homely Girl', 'Come Back Darling', 'Kingston Town', 'Higher Ground', 'Cherry Oh Baby', 'Don't Break My Heart', 'Can't Help Falling In Love', 'Bring Me Your Cup' to name some of the old stuff, and they also played tracks from their new album as well. All night long it was a mellow and relaxed evening, the crowd loving every beat. There were two highlights of the night for me. The first was 'Red Red Wine' - an all-time favourite that Ali did beautifully. And the second was 'Sing Our Own Song' their 1986 anthem for South Africa, that is still extremely relevant and poignant 20 years on. The lighting, sound and stage was fantastic, with different projected images for each song. They even played a Bob Marley track to mark his 61st birthday. We all joined in singing happy birthday to vocalist Astro too, who was celebrating his birthday that day. The last song 'Food For Thought' was the one that got the bands career off the ground 26 years ago, and the group are still going strong. They ended by saying here's to the next 26 years, I hope so! The fans will want them to continue as long as possible. It was one of the most relaxed and chilled out nights in a long time. 5/5 |
