He manages the Community Recording Studio based in St. Ann's.

Over the years he's helped scores of people in St. Ann's, and the wider community, learn how to make music.

He's helped those who've just wanted to develop new skills to others who've gone on to work with the big players in the music industry.

The community recording studio

The studio operates for seven days a week, and the facilities are free to use.

Trevor first got involved with the studio 14 years ago. He tells us what it's all about.

"Music is generally a moneymaking situation. There wasn't anything around for the community. Only the lucky few get to learn instruments and take singing lessons but there are millions out there that can't. Now anyone in the community can benefit from our studio."

Training is offered so that individuals can develop their own skills but also pass on the knowledge to others in the community. Trevor explains how the place works on a give and take policy.

"We now say if you come here and we make you an amazing record then you give back to the community by offering your skills to the studio and the community when needed."

Danielle Beccan

One of the most moving times for Trevor was when he worked with the friends of Danielle Beccan, who decided they wanted to make a CD in her memory.

"When I was told my phone just kept on ringing. By the time I got the studio there was a group of kids outside saying that they wanted to make a CD in her memory. By the Monday there were a 100 kids waiting outside the studio demanding they work towards this project."

"I was amazed."

"We closed the studio to business for two weeks. That two weeks changed a lot of peoples lives. Parents were getting involved. They were saying 'I will dedicate the next two weeks of my life, even longer, to come in and support you'."

"Whether you believe it or not there are a lot of people who care in St. Ann's."

Independent

In the wider music industry circles, Big Trev is best known for founding the Out Da Ville independent Hip Hop label in St. Ann's in the early 1990s.

Members of Out Dav Ville have included Lee Ramsay, Tempa, Simone, Karizma and Scor Zay Zee.

Between them they've been very successful having worked with Sony, EMI, Warner Brothers, appeared on MTV and Channel Four and worked alongside Jamelia, Fierce, Shola Ama and East 17.

However, Trevor hasn't finished discovering new talent.

"I'm always evolving. I like to bring the new to the edge, to the front."

Inspiration

Trevor still isn't planning a day off. Why does he do it?

"Knowledge is the greatest gift. Money pays the bills. We're too busy with focusing on money. Happiness and your achievements don't always connect to money."

"There's work to be done. A real believer in himself and the community doesn't have to worry. There's good days and there are better days. It's as simple as that."
