Children in Nottingham help launch Sport Relief
Events will take place all over the UK

Sport Relief 2006

The Sport Relief Mile is back on Saturday, 15th July and will be even bigger and better than before.

There are 15 gigantic National Miles, plus dozens of Local Miles scattered right across the UK.

In 2002 and 2004 Sport Relief raised £31m. Half was spent in the UK and half went to help people in the poorest countries in the world.

Sport Relief Saturday will culminate in a fantastic, star-studded night of television entertainment on the BBC.

BBC Sport Relief executive producer Martyn Smith is producing The Sport Relief Mile show on BBC One and is very excited about the show.

"It should be a wonderful experience on July 15th, we are planning to visit all 15 of the main Miles live throughout the programme.

"It is incredibly exciting for BBC Sport to once again be involved in such an great event that brings together so many people around the UK so that they can combine exercise, fun and raising money for a fantastic cause."

In the build up to the big day, two hour-long documentaries follow the fortunes of the Sport Relief Redsocks as they tour India to see for themselves how your money is spent and why it is so badly needed.

Chris Evans, Dermot O'Leary and Patrick Kielty are among those who join former cricketers Phil Tufnel and Jack Russell in 'All Out for India'.

There will also be celebrity show-jumping, a special edition of A Question of Sport, All Star Boxing, Celebrity Mastermind and a whole host of other televisual treats.

Jon Rowlands is the BBC executive producer for the evening's entertainment on July 15th.

"We are incredibly grateful to all the people who have given up their time to be part of the show.

"We are feeling good about delivering  over five hours of tip-top TV with top sporting and entertainment names, as well as some outstanding Appeal films produced by our colleagues at BBC Bristol.

"It's going to be a really brilliant day and hopefully the whole country will get behind it and go the Extra Mile for Sport Relief."
