Sideshow Sabbath

A rock roadie and a tribute band all brought together in the name of art.

British Art Show 6

The British Art Show 6 runs from 22nd April - 25th June 2006 at venues throughout the city.

Sideshow is a free event bringing together more than 40 artists to show the best of contemporary art again at a series of venues across Nottingham. It runs from 21st April until 4th June.

More details on both events can be found by using the web links on the right hand of this page.

What makes art? It's an interesting question with a variety of answers but always guaranteed to be a talking point.

Nottingham artist Mark Gubb is probably going to reopen the debate when his contribution to the 2006 British Art Sideshow is unveiled at the Nottingham Boat Club on 20th May.

Unveiled is probably the wrong term to use. A Real Rock Archive: In Conversation features a chat with a rock promoter and Black Sabbath's first roadie, followed by a concert by a Black Sabbath tribute band.

Many might describe it as a gig but Mark says it's art.

"The energy and sentiment of putting a tribute band in a venue where the original group once played is more true to what that band was about than an original band that might have got back together with only half the members."

Nigel Bell's been talking to 31 year old Mark about:-

  • Coming to Nottingham
  • Being an artists full time
  • Corkhenge
  • Rock art

In part two of the conversation he talks about:-

  • The Real Rock archive
  • Is is art?
  • What kind of audience will attend the Sabbath event?
  • Future projects involving skateboards
