Nottingham Forest

Kevin Keegan - the next Reds boss?
Kevin Keegan - the next Reds boss?

Who should replace Gary Megson?

Nottingham Forest fans have their say on who they think should be the next Reds boss.

Matt Newsum says Doncaster's Dave Penney is the man to take Forest forward...

"Let's not throw a former playing hero into the lion's den - let's go for a sensible candidate."
Alan Fisher

Forest have tried the big names in the past and none of them have worked. We need a manager who knows the league, can work with the players we've got and has the nous to get us out of League One. Penney has worked wonders at Doncaster Rovers, and given the personnel at his disposal he must be a consideration. That's if he'd take such a poisoned chalice.

Rishab Baruah says Nigel Clough will be able to cut it at Nottingham Forest...

The appointments of Frank Barlow and Ian McParland suggest that the board would like to make a more permanent appointment soon. I would like that man to be Nigel Clough. He would be the fans’ choice, and the one man to whom the fans would give time to turn the club around. Nigel likes to play football the right way, he has cut his teeth as Burton manager, and can clearly run a club from top to bottom, as well as looking after footballing matters.

Rich Fisher believes QPR's former manager Ian Holloway could add a bit more humour to the club...

Nigel Clough
Should Nigel return to the City Ground?

Well it'd be nice to imagine that Martin O'Neill would come to our beleaguered club - but let's face it, that ain't gonna happen. Realistically, someone I think Forest should approach is Ian Holloway. He's done well everywhere he's been - and even if he can't sort out the mess that the club's in, he'd at least be able to entertain fans through his legendary post-match interviews. The man's a comedy genius, here's an example quote: "Right now, everything is going wrong for me - if I fell in a barrel of boobs, I'd come out sucking my thumb!"

Alex Campbell thinks Kevin Keegan should come out of retirement to add a bit of excitement to Forest...

Well, it’s that time of year again. Christmas has passed, another season is destined for the scrap-heap and Forest are looking for a new manager. My choice is something of a long shot – I’d opt for Kevin Keegan. We’ve suffered a depressing 13 months of Megson’s dismal route one strategies and ceaseless defending. I think Keegan’s brand of somewhat kamikaze counter-attack football would bring out the best in the likes of Commons and Tyson, whilst also selling a few extra season tickets.

John Courtney says former Forest favourite Nigel Clough should return...

Nigel would be my ideal choice. Forest is very much a fan's club and the appointment of most of the managers since Clough have been against the choice of those who cough up their money every Saturday. With Nigel, I think the reverse is true. Hopefully, he'd be genetically predisposed to managerial brilliance and we need some of that at the moment. We passed on Psycho last time and look how wrong that decision was.

Dan Hawkins is another fan who wants to see Kevin Keegan manage the Reds...

Eric Black
Is Eric Black a fair shout for Forest?

In my opinion the board should look to entice Kevin Keegan from retirement. Most fans would remember the way he walked out on jobs when the ultimate challenge got tough. What some fail to remember is that he has been in this position not once - but three times. His credentials for this kind of work are second to none, he turned Newcastle from 3rd division strugglers to Premiership runners-up in under five years. Kevin has the knack of turning lower league clubs into mid-table Premiership teams, and for that I see no other alternative but to make him first choice above everyone.

Alan Fisher is championing former Coventry City boss Eric Black...

There are many candidates from the fantastical to the downright risky in terms of experience, but of those listed I'd like to see us approach Eric Black. He did a great job at Coventry before being inexplicably replaced by Peter Reid - I believe he's now coaching at Birmingham.  He played an entertaining brand of football, and started to turn around an ailing club, and at 44 he's the perfect blend of youth and experience.  Let's not get another 'experienced pro' and certainly let's not throw a former playing hero into the lion's den - let's go for a sensible candidate.
