Photo Competition

The categories explained

A Picture of Nottinghamshire
This year the 12 categories in our photo competition allow for individual interpretation.

The 12 themes in this year's competition allow you to use your imagination. Here we hope to give you a few ideas of what we're after...

View from my window

This category has been inspired by one of the runners up in the 2006 photo competition. Rosie Hunnam, from Radcliffe-on-Trent, photographed Ratfliffe-on-Soar power station, the last visible landmark before leaving Nottinghamshire, while travelling by train to London. We want pictures from your windows on Nottinghamshire... be it your bedroom window or the glass you stare out of every morning on the way to work.

Dawn or dusk

Photographs taken at sunset or sunrise in Nottinghamshire. Capture the beauty of Nottinghamshire as it leaves one day or enters another.

Black and white

Anything that immediately captures a moment of Nottinghamshire life that works best in black and white.

A perfect example of what we're looking for is Jon Speed's photo of the Broadmarsh Centre's escalators (see 2006 winners gallery). This photo immediately says 'shopping in Nottingham'.

Cityscapes

Pictures that capture a city, town or village in a single moment.

Extreme seasons

'Summer storm at night', a photo by Alan Douglas from Bakersfield, caught lightning striking his town in the summer of 2006. We don't expect you to wait around for the next lightning storm to hit but if you can catch the mood of Nottinghamshire under wind, rain, snow or sun then you have a photo we're after.

Nottinghamshire faces

It could be a face of someone known to you or that of someone known to the whole of the county. It could be a person. It could be a statue. It just needs to say Nottinghamshire. Please note: If you are photographing someone under 16 years old you will need written permission from a guardian.

Going wild in Nottinghamshire

When you think of going wild in Nottinghamshire do you think of plants and animals or drunks at closing time? Whichever option you choose remember to be careful when taking these pictures!

Nottinghamshire landmarks

This is the only category we are rolling over from last year. A landmark is what it says on the tin and should be recognisable by the majority.

The big event

Last year there were some great photos of the Robin Hood Marathon. This year we're really keen for you to get down to all the events in Nottinghamshire, big or small and get snapping the action.

The Robin Hood Marathon, the Riverside Festival, Goose Fair, The Dot To Dot music festival, the Robin Hood Pageant, Forest's promotion push at the City Ground(?)... the list is endless.

Nottingham on Trent

This category has been chosen by the listeners of BBC Radio Nottingham. The River Trent is such a big feature of the city and the county. Can you capture the perfect picture of the Trent?

Misc. (Wildcard entries)

This section is totally open. Got a great shot of Nottinghamshire or Nottinghamshire folk but don't think it easily falls into any of the above categories? Well, this is the one for you.
