| Profile : Huw Green | Huw Green lives in Nottingham and loves the burgeoning Drum and Bass scene as well as Selectadisc and the Broadway cinema. In addition to attending as many gigs as possible, he likes to keep an eye on the weird and wacky around the city. He enjoys windsurfing and goes to Rutland water to catch a breeze whenever there is enough time. When he grows up, Huw wants to be Donald Sutherland in M.A.S.H. |
Britain, so I am told, is in the thrall of a binge-drinking epidemic. The nation is crippled by a disastrous new mentality that is responsible for the carnage of human bodies all over Market Square on a Saturday night. If only we could be like continental Europe and sip a few glasses of wine as we head deep into the evening, chatting about the issues of the day. | "I'm looking for a female to review Nottinghamshire's ladies loos. The government is keen; they have changed the legislation that governs pub and bar opening times in the hope that it will result in a tamer attitude to alcohol. Well here in Nottingham I would venture that it is taking off. Cleverly tucked away up a side street off Market Square, Cucamara looks and feels like a Spanish local. Terracotta coloured tiles and quaint wooden fittings lend it a sense of the Iberian, more Madrid than Matlock. However, toilets on the continent (though I don't want to claim too much experience here) are generally quite run down, sorry looking affairs.

Unfortunately, Cucamara's mimicry has been successful right down to this detail and it seems to prove that this is a mood we Brits have trouble with. The dual-tone wall whisks you off to Catalonian interiors but the casually open window lets in only a chilly English draft. The room is quite a trip away and has led to signs of negligence from the staff. If you died in here, would anyone find you? That said, this is a fascinating layout. Two cubicles diagonally opposite, one at either end. They both lock. Everything you need is here too. One for the concerned stylist to look over (even if with disdain) and for the rest of us, tapas all round. |
