UB40 are to play at Sherwood Pines Forest Park near Clipstone, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday, 24th June 2006. They're the second big name band playing at the venue this summer. Embrace will be playing Sherwood Pines Forest Park on Friday, 23rd June 2006.
Forest chiefs anticipate a sell-out 5,000 crowd in the 3,000 acre beauty spot, near Edwinstowe.
Summer gigs in the Forest began in 2001. Since then the venue has played host to Paul Weller, Pulp, Status Quo and Jools Holland. Organiser Chris Bray says: "UB40 will help make it another great year for music in the forest at Sherwood." "The forest has gained a brilliant reputation as a venue for live music and the cash we raise will help us care for our woodlands across the region." Who are UB40? Named after the form issued to unemployed people in the UK to receive benefit, UB40 are the most long-lasting proponents of crossover reggae in the UK. The multi-racial band was formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978 around the brothers Robin and Ali Campbell, the sons of Birmingham folk club singers Lorna and Ian Campbell. Hits include One In Ten, Red Red Wine, Don't Break My Heart, Kiss and Say Goodbye and Can't Help Falling In Love.
