The great Robin Hood gathering

Robin Hood fever will be gripping Nottinghamshire in the summer with a convention in the heart of Sherwood Forest.

Robin of Sherwood

The first episode of the TV series, Robin and the Sorcerer, was broadcast in the Uk on 28th April 1984. The final episode, The Time of the Wolf, was aired on 31st March 1986.

Robin of Sherwood was one of the most popular TV shows devoted to our hero / outlaw back in the 1980s.

Starring, initially, Michael Praed and then Jason Connery, it added a new dimension to the legend - a little touch of the mystical.

It built up a huge following, a fan base that continues up to the present day.

For nearly a decade there's been a convention where those fans can remember the series and meet the stars from the programme.

Traditionally it's been held in Bristol, where the series was shot, but for the first time it's coming to the home of Robin Hood.

From 25th - 27th August 2006 Ye Old Bell at Retford will host the conference where you'll be able to meet stars from the show like Nikolas Grace, who played the Sheriff of Nottingham, Phil Rose who was Friar Tuck and Mark Ryan who played Nasir.

There'll also be trips into the forest to have a go at Longbow archery.

Sue Matthews, organiser of the legend convention, has been talking to Nigel Bell about:-

  • Is this the biggest and the best?
  • What's happening
  • Why just concentrate on the Robin of Sherwood series
  • Don't mention Kevin Costner
  • Coming to Nottinghamshire
  • Long distance travellers
  • The new BBC Robin Hood series
