Dead Boy by Deed Poll

Archive interview (Sept 2003)
Notts' Hendrix Dead Boy is a window cleaning punk who changed his name by deed poll in the 1980s. He tells us his story...

My name's 'endrix Dead Boy. First name's 'endrix - Mr Dead Boy.

"Unfortunately I'm stuck with the name now. I had it changed by deed pole in 1980."

Unfortunately I'm stuck with the name now. I had it changed by deed pole in 1980. It was just to do with the music business… unusual name.

I'm a front man, sir, a vocalist. My band is called Sic Boy Federation. Distasteful. Latin. It's mainly punk and a cross with metal. Sort of 'ardcore-ish punk. Aggressive. Shocking.

I've been doing it since 1977. We're well known, put it that way, throughout the world, yes. Played all over Europe and not-what.

Basically we clean various public houses, throughout Nottingham, windows, maintenance, painting and decorating, cellar clearance, warehouse clearance, house clearance, general maintenance to public houses, night clubs.

We recycle aluminium cans, and obviously we put so much money towards charity. That gives us a good name, gets us in the paper.

We do the festivals, various big shows, bike shows… it's all recycled - obviously aluminium - mainly Red Stripe, Budweiser cans. Not the Steel ones because they're not worth any money.

I've lived in Nottingham all my life, mad man. Whatever you want it's within a mile radius. I've not seen Robin Hood yet.
