Nezza
Nezza in full swing

Unsigned : Nezza

Words by Imade Elbaraka
Nezza is a four piece rock band created in October 2004, originally formed by two exchange students at the University of Nottingham.

Nezza were formed by myself, guitarist/vocalist Imade Elbaraka (France), and drummer Antonio Mendez (Spain). We met each other at a house party in Nottingham.

Our band began life with a three-person line-up when Bassist Rob Garratt joined in. We played Hendrix covers before starting our own songs.

Initially the sound of the band had a lack of energy and I wanted to focus more on writing and playing guitar rather then singing.

We tried a few transient vocalists in vain, before deciding to look for a second guitarist rather than a singer - therefore settling on a four-person lineup.

David Norman joined the band as a lead guitarist and brought with him a new style that gave the band its own rocky sound that would be followed throughout. Think of a more tuneful Foo Fighters; Darwin Theory with less metal; a melodic Radiohead while less UK; Franz Ferdinand with some strong grungy moments.

After a few lively and vibrant gigs around Nottingham, the band got into the studio and recorded its first demo with four songs "Light up your brain", produced by Brandley Colin from an independent studio in Nottingham.

"Void", with strong rocky riffs, is the first and most characteristic song of the band sound, as the three others had been written before David joined in.

The band is aiming now to look for a record label, as it will be a shame to think that we will no longer be a group due to us nearing the completion of our University studies and coming from different countries.
