The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden

The Secret Garden @ Nottingham Arts Theatre

Margaret and Gordon Poulson
At the Nottingham Arts Theatre a musical based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel “The Secret Garden” presented by the Operating Theatre.

The Secret Garden
Start Date:13/07/2005
End Date:16/07/2005
Prices:adult £8.50
Genres:Performing Arts
Venue Name:Nottingham Arts Theatre
Venue Town:Nottingham

The opening scene appeared chaotic as a myriad of  figures attired in white, randomly cavorted around the stage moving tall white blocks as they went.

It took a little while to realize that these figures were the ghost’s from the past of young Mary Lennox and they played an integral part in the story as it was revealed in retrospect by an adult Mary.

The blocks were effectively being used to represent the different locations visited.

Tanya Prevezer was outstanding in her role as young Mary. She showed her character as spoilt , petulant, feisty but adamant in her determination to help her cousin Colin to get well and strong.

Emma Shute gave an excellent performance as Lily and her duet “How Could I Ever Know” with Archibald (Graham Ward) was very moving.

All the members of this group were very talented and they all worked well together. Everyone deserves a mention but this is not possible.

On until Saturday this show is highly recommended.
