If you're fed up of the dark nights of winter here's something to cheer you up. In March 2006 Nottingham city centre will be the place to lose any chilly blues. As part of a major arts collaboration involving Nottingham, Derby and Leicester, a giant installation is going to be erected in the centre of each city by the Mexican artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. Called Underscan, it'll be an interactive video installation, the worlds largest shadow play using vast projections. Because it's being installed during March it'll be projecting from 5pm to midnight for around ten days. Artist Lozano-Hemmer has worked on similar large scale projects in Rotterdam, Mexico and Dublin. He says Underscan is an attempt to reclaim public space. He's been talking to BBC Radio Nottingham's Alan Clifford about:- - The idea behind Underscan
- What it is
- Creating a window into a virtual shadow world
- Using the whole community
- It's a non-commercial venture
- Previous projects
