Twenty two year old Peter Sampson comes from Sherwood. But mention the name to club lovers and it'll hardly raise an eyebrow. Try suggesting The Petebox and you'll get a completely different reaction.
For the past four years The Petebox has slowly been making a name for himself as a human beatbox. If you're clueless as to what we're talking about think Bobby McFerrin (the bloke who did Don't Worry, Be Happy) only with fewer words and more human beats. Or if you're a fan of the BBC 3 show, The Smoking Room, the electrician who keeps bursting into beatbox mode. Our Pete's a lot better. Now The Petebox can boast he's the number one in Britain having seen off all comers in the Human Beatbox Tournament in November 2004. And seen off is the right phrase; Pete describes the event as being very much like the 8 Mile movie without the rapping. There were a series of knock out rounds, one on one, with the winner decided by audience reaction. A split decision and it went to the judges. The Petebox overcame local favourites to be crowned champion. If you want to know what makes him tick and how you become a human beatbox listen to The Petebox as he chats to Nigel Bell. During the interview he talks about:- - Getting started
- Training to keep in shape
- The Beatbox finals
- What the future holds
- Performing with local bands Swimming and We Show Up On Radar
