If you're talking about pressure Paula's got it easy compared to Richard. The 28-year-old swimming teacher was born with no legs below the knees. When he tackles the 26 plus miles he'll be doing so without the aid of his prosthetic legs. Instead he'll wear specially-cushioned shoes fitted where his prosthetic limbs are normally attached. | "My disability is more visual when my legs are off and I want to show that disabled people can play sport." | | Richard Whitehead |
Richard hopes to raise awareness of disability and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Research. This will be his first marathon. He's been talking from New York to BBC Radio Nottingham's Karl Cooper. During the interview he talks about :- - The New York weather
- How he can run with his disability
- He's a healthy guy
- Specialist running equipment
- All in a good cause
- The route
