The Theme for this year's BBC Nottingham and Nottinghamshire County Council short story competition is Elvis. You have up to 500 words to write a short story connected in some way with Elvis Presley. The only condition is that your story must include one - or many - Elvis song titles. Write fiction It could be about that famous impromptu Elvis gig in Kirkby, or the day you did something inspired by one of his songs. Your story could be romance, crime fiction, travel writing, anything you like ... but it has to be suitable to read on the radio. Use your imagination. Entries Entries please to Elvis Short Story Competition, BBC Radio Nottingham, London Road, Nottingham NG2 4UU by December 17th, 2004. Alternatively, you can e-mail them through to nottingham@bbc.co.uk with the subject title 'Elvis Short Story Competition'. Winning entrants will be notified, and winning entries broadcast during January 2005. Prizes First prize is a £50 book token. There are £10 book tokens for nine runners up. All prize winners will be invited to a small reception and tour of the BBC radio and television studios in Nottingham. Winning entries will be read out on BBC Radio Nottingham and published on this website. Don't leave your entries until the last minute though – BBC Radio Nottingham's John Holmes will be reading out his favourite entries on the Afternoon Show throughout the duration of the competition. Rules - Entries must be original and submitted under the name of the writer.
- Please enclose your full name, address, phone number and email if possible.
- Entries must be typed.
- Entries cannot be returned, please keep a copy for your own records.
- Copyright rests with the writers, but entry to the competition allows Radio Nottingham the right to broadcast your story or to publish it on their website.
- Entrants can send up to two stories.
- There is no fee for entry.
- The judges' decision is final.
- The competition opens on 11th October.
- Entrants must live or work in Nottinghamshire.
