Hockerton Housing Project: The lake
Hockerton Housing Project (HHP) aims to be as self-sustaining as possible, but within a modern context.

Sheep graze in fields with a wind turbine, houses nestling under the earth topped with solar panels, and eco-consultancy merges with honey production from the community's beehives.

While it would be unrealistic to expect everyone to adopt this way of life, the members of HHP hope that others can be inspired and encouraged to at least make some small changes to the way they live.

"I consider myself very lucky," he says. "My house overlooks a lake, with a wonderful array of wildlife on the doorstep, including kingfishers and herons. It's a fantastic way of life."
