The owners of the Works nightclub in Nottingham have gone into receivership - after underage drinking and violence at the venue forced its closure.

The Works opened four years ago and was one of the largest nightclubs in the country.

The club had dancefloors, bars, and chill-out zones on several floors, and attracted hen and stag party crowds from all over the country after it opened in 2001.

It has been plagued by instances of violence and under-age drinking, which led to the withdrawal of its drinks licence in September 2005.

Police believe the club was too big to be managed properly.

A director of the company which ran the club now says he regrets that recent events blemished the venue's excellent reputation.
