A radio drama competition

BBC writersroom, together with BBC North Yorkshire, is looking for a ten minute radioplay from a new writer.

Six short plays will be commissioned from around the country with £400 for each writer.

FACTS

 The New Writing Initiative was set up to to identify and champion talent and diversity across BBC Drama, Entertainment and Children's programmes.

 All work is assessed for the talent of the writer, as well as the script's suitability for broadcast by the BBC.

 We receive around 200 scripts each week and competition is very tough.

Writing for Radio

The BBC is planning to broadcast a season of six new ten minute radioplays in the Spring. They will be the winners of The Spin competition which is supported by the Gulbenkian Foundation.

The plays will be professionally cast and produced. The winning play for each station will also form part of the season for five other radio stations across the North.

Get it in Writing

If you have a story that springs from the recent history of the Northern industries, think how it will work in sound, write it down and send it in by 28 February 2003.

To help you write your 10 minute radio we're running a series of free workshops.

To Enter

You need to provide:

  • a full ten-minute script, typed, with numbered pages marked clearly on every page with your name and contact details.

  • a large s.a.e, for return of script (if desired)

  • your c.v.

  • a covering letter stating that you have read and agree to abide by the rules of the competition.
