Review:
Hay Fever
"There's something delightfully romantic about the
inter-war years, something that makes me hanker for devilled kidneys
and a cigarette holder."
Theatre? What theatre?
With student attendance at York Theatre Royal falling, Henry offers
a good rationale for anyone doubting the merits of professional
theatre over, say, the campus Drama Barn.
Review:
Beautiful Thing
"Truly a beautiful thing" says Henry about this Pilot
Theatre Company production.
Review:
Macbeth
Macbeth
at the Theatre Royal is one of the best adaptations Henry has seen.
"Go and see it - tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow!",
he advises.
Review:
Far Away
Although
impressed by the technical standards of the performance Henry was
left cold by Far Away.
Checklists:
need to complete them
Another
student who's beginning to consider life-after-university is Henry.
His to-do checklist has changed somewhat since his days as a sprightly
19-year old first year...
What
is it with Christmas films?
"Instead of the classic 'Home Alone' we are subjected to the
inferior sequel 'Home Alone 2; Lost In New York'."
Live
Aid: You've gotta love the eighties!
"Believe it or not, it's been nigh
on twenty years since gentle hairy Bob Geldof grapped his moustachioed
mate Midge Ure, dragged his pop friends into a cold studio, and
recorded 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'."
Gambling...
A quick buck?
For
all you students out there who find, as ever, that you are short
of cash, there is a way out. Gambling. OK,
so I shouldn't be advocating such an activity but when it comes
down to it, Poker really is the way forward.
Review:
Brassed Off? Certainly not!
'You've
seen the film, now watch the play'. OK,
not one of the most popular taglines but in this case a worthy one.
Definitely worth an evening out to go and see, 'Brassed Off' was
a mini tour-de-force.
Working
holidays
Beyond
bar or shop work there are not many options for students during
semesters, especially if they are doing a subject with a high concentration
of contact time. We can't be expected to sacrifice our education
in order to pay the bill for it, that doesn't make sense!
Living
the Glastonbury dream
Part of the essential student experience is a trip (or two) to a
major pop festival. Mud, sweat, dirty clothes, cheap cider, awful
smells, loud music, takeaway food and funny substances, and that
is all before leaving the house!
