We all want to remember the 5th of November, but not because it was spent hospital.

Play it safe at your firework party. Follow the safety tips for people and pets.

FACTS

 In 2002, over 1,000 people were injured by fireworks during the four weeks surrounding 5th November. (Rospa)

 Almost 25% of the 2002 firework injuries were sustained by people aged 13 - 17 years. (Rospa)

 Eye injuries accounted for a quarter of the 2002 firework accidents reported. (Rospa)

More than 1000 people have good reason to remember 5th November 2002... it ended with a trip to hospital.

Make sure that you, and your family, stay safe this year.

Here's a guide to keeping safe on fireworks night:

  1. Plan your firework display in advance to make it safe and enjoyable.
  2. Keep fireworks in a closed box and use them one at a time.
  3. Read the instructions on each firework carefully, use a torch if you need to.
  4. Keep flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks except when ready to set them off .
  5. Light the firework at arm¿s length with a taper and stand well back.
  6. Never go back to a firework once it has been lit, even if it doesn't go off.
  7. Don't put fireworks in your pockets and never throw them.
  8. Point all rocket fireworks well away from spectators.
  9. Never use paraffin or petrol on a bonfire.
  10. Make sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before leaving.
