The team behind The Harrogate Festival say they're proud to have brought world class artists to the town and increased Harrogate's profile.

That looked in doubt this year as the festival faced a financial crisis when grant funding from the borough council was in doubt.

However an agreement was reached and the festival programme is as full as ever.

Musical highlights include RnB star Amy Winehouse, Portuguese superstar Mariza and Jazz from Wynton Marsalis who's playing his only UK date outside London at the festival.

As well as the musical events there's also the Crime Writing Festival which is a must see for any budding writers.

Minette Walters is this year's guest of honour. She'll be interviewed by Radio 4's Jenni Murray.

Kate Burrough is part of the team working on the festival, she says the Crime Writing Festival will be a great boost to any budding authors or fans of crime fiction.

"As well as opening the festival Minette will be there for the whole festival, mingling with the other authors and enthusiasts.

"There will also be industry seminars in how to get published, writing for radio as well as chances to see these best selling authors in discussion. Plus you can hang around and have a drink with them at the bar."
