Should supporters run York City?
York City
How rosy is City's future?

Only six months after taking over as club chairman John Batchelor is in talks with the supporters' trust over the future of the club

So could we see the club run by the trust and would they be any good?

Some would say that John Batchelor was taking a chance when he took on York City, but for a while things looked rosy for the club. The team's performance has been on the up and a new stadium looked possible.

But it would seem that it takes more than a new logo and a man in a fast car to turn City's fortunes around. The supporters' trust are in talks with Mr Batchelor about taking over the running of the club.

So what's next for City? Does the club have any future at all as a real league contender? How much does the Supporters' Trust know about running a club?

Tell us, and the rest of the world, just what you think. Go to our Message Board.

John Batchelor is making York City a laughing stock. He came, did his best, but has failed. The fans are the only ones to get the club out of this mess. Once players contracts are reduced significantly to match the income of the club, York will survive as they always used to. As for the ground, well needless to say four people are making huge profits out of a community asset which they have no right to do. What they are doing is shameful.
Stewart, Barnsley
John Batchelor's 'rebranding', particulary use of the derisory word 'Soccer', has actually casued some fans to stay away. The sooner he and his dumbed-down, lowest-common-denominator ideas go, the better.
Paul, Ripon
Wonderful news regarding our Trust taking over, but we must not lose sight of the fact that Craig, Swallow, Webb & Quickfall (BCH majority shareholders) still intend to sell our ground for personal profit, shame on them! I urge every football fan to get involved in opposing their plans to build 93 houses on our home. If you can make it, be sure you are at the re-arranged FA Cup tie with Swansea and join in the protest organised by the Friends of Bootham Crescent.
Dave, Australia
A mistake was made the day the club was handed over to Mr Batchelor, What was wrong with Mr Flamingoland after all he had the finance behind him or did Mr Craig want the club to fold all along? Whatever the answer a long road lies ahead and I wish the trust all the best in trying to sort out the mess at York City.
Steve, York
It seems to me that John Batchelor is something of a naive enthusiast. Sadly these qualities are insufficient to ensure survival in modern football. The Supporters' Trust is a body of great integrity and genuinely represents City fans. That doesn't mean things will become perfect overnight, but at least York City will be run for and by the fans instead of for the profit of a few.
Frank, York
Batchelor's charm seemed to win people over last time, or maybe we were just all too desperate and would have welcomed Maggie in as chairman. he should stick to cars, or maybe start making soup.
Amy, Melbourne
I agree with Iain. Batchelor seems to eant to blame everyone but himself for failing to turn the club around.
Andy, York
I don't think the fans will blame Batchelor for the way things are. Hes done his best.
Kate, York
John Batchelor is clearly all talk. He's done very little for the club other than get lots of bizarre publicity. It's time for someone to take some action.
Iain, Ripon
