Bamburgh

York artist Steve Phillips specialises in watercolour, enjoying the quirkiness of the medium.

My painting began as a way of capturing favourite scenes on holiday, often in Cornwall or Northumberland. Even today, I seem to have more time to paint on holiday than at home.

I enjoy grappling with watercolour, which has a mind of its own, and can create the happiest of accidents.

Inspirations include big skies in Norfolk or Northumberland, the colour of the sea in Cornwall, or something as simple as a person walking on a beach.

I often take part in the Open Air exhibitions in York city centre, and my recent work can be seen on my personal website
.
